VOCAL TEACHER, PIANO TEACHER

Liz is a light lyric coloratura soprano specializing in Baroque and Oratorio performance. She holds her MMs in Classical Vocal Performance and a post graduate degree in Vocal Pedagogy from New York University Steinhardt in conjunction with NYU Langone where she worked with their SLP and laryngology department in learning how to rehabilitate singers with incurable vocal pathologies like herself.

She has most recently performed as Papagena (Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte), Ottavia (Monteverdi: L’incoronazione di Poppea) at Scorca Hall (National Opera Center), Susanna (Mozart: Le Nozze di Figaro) at Weill Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall), soprano soloist in Handel’s Messiah, soprano soloist in Bach’s Magnificat, & Juno/The Plaint (Purcell: The Fairy Queen).

passion, she’s committed to helping her students better understand their bodies and their voices and helping to foster their own individual sound through establishing a healthy vocal technique. In addition to her BFA and MMs she has over four years of experience with the Alexander technique and experience working directly with singers with various vocal disorders such as polyps, nodules, and vocal chord atrophy and their SLPs & ENTs. She has an understanding of basic speech therapy practices as well as speech and singing cross overwork. She is trained in Stanislavski, Meisner, and Chekhov acting techniques. She has taught over 60 individuals of various ages (14-63), ranges, styles (R&B & Screamo/Hardcore singing/skrelting to classical), and experiences. She works particularly well with young basses and light soprano voices.

Her vocal curriculum for all ages consists of:

• Theoretical Understanding of Functional “Tonal” Harmony

• Interpretative Performance Informed by Harmonic Analysis

• Music History applicable to selected repertoire

• Aural Development/Ear Training

• Technique (Scales, Exercises, Etudes)

• Collaborating and playing with other players

• Improvisation & Baroque Ornamentation (for more advanced students)

As Liz holds her MMs in Music Teaching from New York University Steinhardt in conjunction with NYU Langone, and her BAs in Music History and Vocal Performance. Through her style of piano coaching, she helps players to unpack the music they are performing so they are better able to interpret the narrative nature of their pieces, starting with an approach to basic tonality and functional harmony, as well as identifying macro and micro forms, textures, and contrapuntal techniques, and so forth. Liz is an experienced piano instructor and she enjoys helping her students to prepare for recitals and exams.
